About this book
"The automotive maven and former Member of Parliament might be the most trusted man in Canada, an inverse relationship to the people he writes about." -- "The Globe and Mail" "Lemon-Aid" shows car and truck buyers how to pick the cheapest and most reliable vehicles from the past 30 years of auto production. This brand-new edition of the bestselling guide contains updated information on secret service bulletins that can save you money. Phil describes sales and service scams, lists which vehicles are factory goofs, and sets out the prices you should pay. As Canada's automotive "Dr. Phil" for over 40 years, Edmonston pulls no punches. His "Lemon-Aid" is more potent and provocative than ever.

Some custom programming was needed. CSR and Instructions are poor, but product is great!

This unit automatically programmed itself and all the buttons work flawlessly except my factory buttons for "Next Preset" were set to "Seek Up" and "Seek Down." So Sirius XM would go from 101 then 102 then 103 etc. or the next frequency on the FM dial - If I was on 95.5 it would then select 95.7 then 95.9 as it will not jump up to 98.9 as the next preset in line. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes the first time and hanging up, I waited 27 minutes the second time until I finally got to speak with a CSR. He explained that if the radio remote does not have a "next preset" feature, then you couldn't program the unit to do that either. Luckily, my new Pioneer DOES have that option on the remote so I read the instructions about 8 times until I finally understood how to "Remap" the buttons (custom program them.)It took me 3 or 4 tries to get it right (due to crappy instructions) but in the end, I got the "next preset" working exactly like my factory radio used to... 4/5 Lawrance M. works fantastic

0 5/5 Greg "smitz0327" (Pittsburgh) - See all my reviews This review is from: Metra Axxess ASWC-1 Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface (Automotive) Got mine off of eBay because it was cheaper. It was easy wiring as long as you go to the website, put in your car and download the install sheet. It called for a resistor which I did not have but it programmed with no problems. Installing the new stereo along with this item took about 3 hours because I did solder all my wires on the harness and the steering wheel adaptor. My car is a 2002 Grand Prix GTP Coup and the stereo is a Kenwood KDC-BT852HD. Hope this helps 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 14, 2013

Works fine after many long hours of (unnecessary) troubleshooting

I purchased this kit for my 2006 Maxima steering wheel controls to interface with a Pioneer AVH-X2500BT head unit. The package comes with everything you will need for the install and the instructions provided in the package and online are sufficient for the average Joe (me) to install on his own. Once installed, it works great.. so far.Now for the bad: The initial install took me about 2 hours. I tried programming the device and it didn't work. I had started the project on a weekend so the help desk wasn't open. I spent several hours troubleshooting until I was ready to just say the heck with it and give up. I called the help desk on Monday and was informed that some of the units were manufactured incorrectly and the wiring on the 2 wires that go to the deck's W/R input need to be reversed. I did this and it worked perfectly.Since this is a 50$ item, I think it should be better constructed and free of LAZY defects. I'm giving it 3 stars because it works, but it... 3/5 Andrew Ruhl - See all my reviews, August 16, 2013

How did I live without this?!

I've been interested in HD radio for about a year and a half now. Over that time, I had installed two external HD radio tuners in my car. The first was Visteon HD Jump directly connected to my AUX in line through a JVC KD-SX75 head unit. When I sold that car, I bought and had the JVC KT-HDP1 installed in my new car, connected to the cars' head unit by an FM transmitter. After using these, I wanted to get a head unit with an HD Radio tuner built in, as well as having an input for an MP3 player.I wish I had found this product much earlier than I did. This unit is ready for what I currently have, as well as ready for and will control iPods, XM and/or Sirius satellite radio, Bluetooth, and a JVC CD changer through the head unit out of the box, though you'd have to buy those products separately.HD Radio on this is a great feature. In addition to AM and FM signals sounding better because of HD Radio, most stations display the track titles and artists of the songs... 5/5 Rob (3rd Rock from the Sun, FL, USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: JVC Car KDHDR30 In-Dash CD Receiver with HD Radio Tuner (Electronics) I've been interested in HD radio for about a year and a half now. Garish, but lovable for all that it does

Pros:Does everything well.Cons:1. Garish - bright silver chromed plastic beams out from sickeningly festive red and blue lights around the main controls. i took off the plastic volume knob, removed the black rubber band around the knob, then sanded the chrome finish off the knob and spray painted it black. Then I put the rubber band back on and remounted the knob. This is the only piece that's easy to refinish, but it helps.2. Using the iPod controller (optional) takes away the the ability to connect other JVC optional accessories, such as bluetooth.3. Runs a tad warm, but this hasn't caused any problems, yet.If you run into the problem with the CD player making clicking sounds, download the firmware update from JVC's website, unzip it, burn it to a CD and update your unit.Other than the appearance of this unit, I'm very happy with it - it's very fully featured. Siriusly cool, but some disappointment

I've waited for three months for the S50 to come out. I finally found one and had it installed professionally in my car. I love what the S50 can do, and I'm overall very pleased, but I have some problems with the S50. First the good stuff. It's a great design with an awesome LCD display. The station, artist and song are always visible. None of the scrolling stuff. The base has a rotating know to change channels, replay songs, press to record a song you like while it's playing and a host of other options. Very cool. The removable lightweight unit is about the size of 2/3 of a deck of playing cards. With this unit, you can remove it from your car, plug in the headphones and play your downloaded MP3's and recorded content from sirius. The rechargeable battery is supposed to last around six hours. I haven't drained it yet. It recharges automatically when plugged into the base unit. Additionally, it will automatically download music from your three most listened to... 4/5 R. Great Idea, Very Poor Execution.

First off, let me say that I view the current S50 as a prototype. I think they rushed to market in order to have the product available by the time Stern started broadcasting. The fact that none of the accesories (including the home dock) are available yet shows that this product was rushed. The bugs and missing features, too, indicate a rushed release. Wait a few months and you will probably see prices drop, reliability increase, and features added.Missing features: (1) There are no audio settings (not even the omnipresent "bass boost"). It should be against the law at this point to release a product like this without at least some sort of rudimentary equalizer. I have found the sound to be very poor largely because of this. The bass is lacking and the highs sound tinny. (2) If you are listening to one of your automatically recorded favorite channels in playback mode and leave the playback and return, you do not return to the point where you left (even if you don't turn... 3/5 Anthony (New York, NY USA) - See all my reviews, December 30, 2005

    Do The Research!!!

Anyone giving this product less than 4 stars is Ignorant and/or bitter, because they spent over 300 bucks on something they didn't research or don't know how to use. NO it does not get live broadcast without being docked (either in your car or in your home) But it doesn't claim to!, and NO you can not set up a recording segment (longer than simply recording one song) for any of the music stations(but this isn't nearly as important as i originally thought it would be)Let me tell you what it can do. I've had mine for a little over a day now so I'm not an expert YET but i have gotten pretty familiar with the product. The most important/impressive thing that this product does (which has been overlooked by or atleast not explained clearly by anyone YET) is the "MY sirius Channels" function. Your S50 will "automatically" ( I left my unit on and docked while I went to sleep) record content from your most listened to channels...which in my case was the channel that i left it... 5/5 Mr. John S. Very good performance - easy to use

I had this unit profesionally installed in my Porsche Cayman and the custom installation is a very good fit. The navigation system is very easy to use - if you've had a garmin (that is what it is based on), you pretty much do not need to read the manual - it is very intuitive and accurate. I've driven about 2000 miles with it and I like the large bright display - it is easy to change directions and detour on the fly. It does not have voice commands, but the touch screen is easy to use.I have also used the bluetooth with my Razr phone and have not encountered the problems stated in the earlier review. The microphone is placed near the rearview mirror and only the front speakers come on when I'm talking on the phone - the unit shuts off any music that you might have playing. I use the touchscreen to dial a number and it works well - the folks at the receiving end have no problem hearing me.There is also an ipod adapter that is in the glove compartment - once hooked up all... 5/5 Unoman "Unoman" (Wheaton, IL USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kenwood DNX6140 Wide Double-DIN In-Dash Nagivation with Built-in Bluetooth USB/iPod Direct Control/DVD Receiver-6.1-Inch (Electronics) I had this unit profesionally installed in my Porsche Cayman and the custom installation is a very good fit. Kenwood DNX6140 is a winner in every way!

The Kenwood DNX6140 head unit is amazingly useful and easy to use. I looked a long time before ordering my first DNX6140 from Crutchfield, which I installed in our '05 Toyota Sienna. I was so impressed that I ordered a second unit (the DNX5140) from Amazon (at a better price) and installed it in my Toyota MR2. I liked the two of them so well that we installed another DNX6140 (also purchased from Amazon) in our VW Passat. The only problem now will be having to buy three map updates each year or two, since Garmin doesn't yet offer a multiple unit map upgrade.Pluses include the proven Garmin navigation system, which I was already familiar with, and which influenced my decision to buy the Garmin over some other non-Garmin units. The audio system is excellent, with all the inputs, outputs, and adjustments you could possibly need. It sounds GREAT! I also installed Kenwoods CCD-2000 backup cameras on all three cars, and find their backup camera display on the head unit an... 5/5 Macondray J. Overly Complicated

Hard to figure out a rating. I basically really like the unit; it looks and sounds great, Garmin NAV is unbeatable. That all gets 5-stars. But Kenwood seems to have spent all of their time and effort on the details and left out the basics. I think it's great that you can change the panel color by adjusting the red/green/blue levels, but to adjust the volume on the NAV system requires digging through several menus. I've sent 3 different messages to customer service to get explanations on things which should be pretty obvious but aren't. User-friendliness rating of 1-star, instruction manual would get 0-stars. I installed the unit myself in a 2004 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Best Buy wanted $300 more for the unit and about $250 for installation. Very simple process but I'd definitely suggest buying a car-specific wiring harness kit (I got one from Crutchfield). I ended up only having to cut two car wires to get almost everything working (I don't have the rear camera): one splice for an... 4/5 J. Klemm (Northern VA) - See all my reviews, January 26, 2010

*WAS* very happy with my purchase

i have 2 of these strapped together pushing my 2 15" kicker L7 2ohm dvcpros:*affordable*they aren't massive in size compared to "some" other higher priced amplifiers*easily adjusted*plenty of power: (RMS) 3.5kw@1ohm, 2.5kw@2ohm, 1.8kw@4ohmcons:*car needs a decent alternator+batteries to keep up*they get "pretty warm" in my torture tests but "not hot"other things you should keep in mind:i may be wrong, but here is my basic math to figure the power requirements of the alternator.lets use the rms wattage for a 2ohm single channel setup for one of these AC5000.1D's.2,500/12=208.333... simply divide the required wattage by the voltage the system runs on to get the required amperage.if you cant afford a good alternator you better invest in some very good deep cycle batteries and capacitors.dont forget to also invest in some good wiring too. solid copper 0gauge if you can... 1/5 Seth M. All in a 3rd Gen Exploder. Comparing this amp to other high brand amps like Kicker, Orion, JL, Rockford, etc... this thing is awesome for the price. This amp basically forces power to your subs. Could Not Be Happier

I usually do not take the time to write reviews, but I think this product should receive some good feedback. Planet audio has actually been around a long time and has some really good products. I installed this amplifier in my dodge neon along with two Quantum audio QAW10D4 subwoofers rated 2500W each in a ported box. This amp has 4awg power connectors which I think is the only drawback. It should have 1/0 connectors. it comes with a 200A ANL external fuse with all hardware and mounting accessories. Some sites and forums are saying it has 4 40A fuses, but that is incorrect. The amp is rather large and very well built. It has 3500W RMS at 1 ohm, 5000max which is probably why it has that large of a fuse. It has good ventilation all around and underneath. The sound is very clean and so far I have not hit the audible distortion point and I definitely have not hit clipping, although I have not tried to push it that far yet. All of my deck bass levels and sub levels are flat at... 5/5 JayDogg "Jason" (Arizona) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
